There were no signs indicating that we were approaching the site of
tragic attack on the World Trade Center. We walked through an
enclosed walkway in this commercial building.

This is the view from the walkway
in that building.
|

Another view from the walkway of
that building. I didn't know what to expect. There was a
hole about five stories deep and at least two blocks square.
|
|
|

The walkway started out quite
fancy, with marble floor, and ended rather primitively, with
scaffolding and a metal roof. At the end of the walkway was a
small piece of scaffolding covered with memorabilia. I imagine
that the city was covered with this sort of thing shortly after the
disaster.

Another view of the scaffolding.

|

The buildings around the site were
damaged and some were being repaired.
|

This building was gutted and draped in black.
|
|

This building had many windows missing.
|

This is a memorial to the Port
Authority employees, taken through a chain link fence.
|
|

This is a poster on the the fence
overlooking the disaster site. The posters tell the history of
the area, and maybe even the history of Manhattan.
|

The sign on the building on the
other side of the site says that the rebuilding continues.
|
|

On the left is the disaster site,
and the fence with the posters of the history of the area. On the
right of the walkway is this wall that says post no bills. I
imagine that if it were allowed, this wall would be plastered with
expressions of grief like those on the small piece of scaffolding
pictured above.

I thought that the structure with
the wavy horizontal roof would be a pavilion memorializing the events
of September 11, but it was the World Trade Center train station.

This is the window of a fire station.
|
|

This plaque was displayed on the
wall outside the fire station. I believe these men lost their
lives in the September 11, 2001, attack.

|

I have seen photos of this
graveyard shortly after the attack. The ashes were knee deep and
falling like snow.
